This guide provides a step by step overview of how to set up documents for APA style in Microsoft Word. The guide also reviews the tools available in Microsoft Word and how they might be useful in a student's paper.

How to Change the Font in Microsoft Word

In APA style, the font needs to be in Times New Roman, 12 point. These instructions will show you how to change the font in Microsoft Word.

To change the font before writing a paper:

1. Click the “Home” tab at the top left of the page.

2. Click the arrow next to the font name, and scroll down the list until you find Times New Roman. Do the same for the font size.

To change the font after writing a paper:

1. Select all of the text within the paper. HINT: Holding down both the Ctrl key and the A key will select all of the text.

2. Proceed with the directions for changing the font (found in the section above).
