Chicago Manual of Style Formatting Guide for Microsoft Word: Title Page

This guide provides a step by step overview of how to set up documents for Chicago style in Microsoft Word. The guide also reviews the tools available in Microsoft Word and how they might be useful in a student's paper.

How to Create a Title Page in Chicago Style

Documents in CMS require a title page. To set up a title page:

  1. Your title should be centered and about one-third of the way down the page. To center your title, go to the “Home” tab.

  2. Under the “Paragraph” section, select the centering button.

  3. Now press the “Enter” button on your keyboard 3 times and type your title. If your title is longer than one line, it must be double spaced.

  4. Your name, class, and date should follow several lines down towards the bottom of the page and should be single spaced. See above.
